I have finished Renee's beautiful mystery shawl. I used Knit picks Gloss lace with Alpaca cloud for the border.
Here is a close up of the pattern.
Blocked. I dis an open square shawl but goofed on the edging. I did not adjust the corners where the opening is so there are actually two corners there. Thus the overlap. Oh Well, no one will know when I am wearing it.

Janice bleached Jocelyne's hair so the colour would take better. Where there is blond now, will be pink. Isn't this fun?

Look, her eyes match her hair! I could have taken the red yey out but this is more fun this way.

This was done backstage at the show on Sunday.

Coloured but not cut. On the drive home Sunday night. We needed to bew back early Monday morning for the competition. It looks kind of red in this photo but it is really bright pink.

This is the ABA Hair Show in Winnipeg. The competitors have finished cutting and styling the hair and now the models have to pose while the judges walk around and....judge. They are not jusr judging the hair but he complete package, hair cut. hair style, hair colour, makeup, clothes, pose, etc. Here is a close up of the back of the hair. This is the best picture of the colour of her hair.

It is an asymetrical cut. This is the longer side.

This is the shorter side. The colour is too red here. It is really the pink like above. The lady in the background is Janice, the wonderful stylist.

As a side note, they placed 4th.

Hair Model

Jocelyne is going to be a hair model for a hair competition next week.
This is her with her hair bleached and pre-cut.
They will add colour on Sunday and the show will be on Monday. I can't tell you about the colour or the cut since it is a competition.

It is an asymetrical cut and will have more than one colour on it.

We go in to the city tommorrow to try on the clothes. That should be fun. She will also have to walk down the "runway" at the competition so she will hve to practice that as well.

This is the Northern Lights shawl done in Rainbow Kauni yarn. It was a fun knit. It is not blocked yet.

Here is a sweater I made using some stash. I think the pattern is called Greenjeans. I used worsted weight wool from elann.comHere is a close up of the cable pattern. I learned hoe to do cables without a cable needle. What fun!

This is my project for the next little while. (LOL) I am going to try to get my stash under control. I have enough lace yarn alone to make at least a dozen shawls. If I make one a month that is a full year of knitting.

I had better get busy. The trick is finding the pattern and yarn that match.

This project was a lot of fun to knit. I was using 2 blls of Noro Silk Garden yarn and just alternated balls.

I love how the colours are striping and this yarn is very yummy.

This is the latest shawl I made. This photo is pre-blocking. I will up date with a photo of it blocked next week when I give it to the recipient.

Penguins requested by friend who is going to be a grandma. Not what I usually knit but I am always up for a challenge.

All I had was a pattern for a duck. I altered the pattern to make the penguins and then added hats.

My 7 yr old son helping knit a scarf for his great grandma who is 92.

We even got Dad in on the project. That is my 10 yr old daughter giving him instruction. He did it quite well. I was surprised.

I have never done a drop stitch pattern before and I really enjoyed it. This is knitpicks Gossamer yarn and size 4.0mm needle.

This one is zepher single standed.
This one is zepher douple stranded. I might do it double to get a bit more width to my stole. I will aslo be going into the city on Saturday to look for beads.

Fall colours

This is the only yarn I have in my stash that is the right weight for the next mystery shawl. The theme for the shawl is "fall". I do not think this is a very "fall" colour. It is the colour "root" from Peace Fleece. So.....
I started experimenting by combining different lace weight yarns I have.
This is two strands of brown alpaca and one strand of Zepher Copper.

The softest ofthese is the three strands of Zepher and as you add more alpaca it gets rougher. These were all knit on a size 5.5mm needle.

The mystery shawl starts on September 15 so I have to decide soon.

I dyed the yarn myself and I really like that there is a bit of variation in shading.

I find that the cables in the middle tend to pull in too much for my liking. It makes the sock hard to get up over the heel.

Mystery stole blocking

Here is my finished mystery stole on the blocking pads.
I did use beads and they look great on the stole, you just can't see tehm in the photos.
I used two different coloured beads. One colour (darker than the yarn) along the edges and then a shinny same-colour-as-yarn bead for the inside areas of the yarn.
I really enjoyed putting beads into my knitting. I have never done that before but I will do it again. I put them on using a crochet hook and found it really easy to do.

I like both ends of the stole but I'm not sure I like them together.
I really like the pattern fro the wing and will probably use it again.
I also like the triangular end.

Mystery Shawl 4

Here is my hand dyed yarn for myster shawl 4.
I dyed it red but wanted some varience in colour. I really like the way it turned out. Some of it is pink some red and some has a bit of purple in it.(Probably from the blue I dyed the day before in the same pan)

Now I am just waiting for the first clue to come out. I have decided to start with the lightest skein and work my way out to the darkest.

Socks for my Mom

Here are some socks I knit for my mom. It is a k2p2 ribbing. I knit them and then dyed them. I have never done this before, I usually dye the yarn first. I loved how they turned out. I know it is not how they were "supposed" to turn out but I like them better this way. I know my mom will love them.

Yarn For 2 new shawls

I was having fun trying out some dyes I have. I am ready to start two new shawls. Another mystery shawl and the Icelandic Lace shawl. Who says you can knit too many shawls? And is there any rule that says how many shawls you are allowed on the needles at one time. (Assuming you have an endless supply of needles.)

The red yarn was dyed using "Cherry Red". Now that it is out of the water and almost dry it looks almost more pinkish than red. I also wanted some variation in colour and I got it. One skein even looks like it has a bit of purple in it. I am excited about knitting with it to see how it knits up.

I am also wondering how the diffent colours for the Icelandic shawl will go together. The pattern is pretty stripy.

Baby Items

Here are some items I knit for a new baby in our church.

The bib is not bigger than the sweater, just a closer photo.

The blanket was knit fron the circle out and I just swithced colours whenever I felt like it. It is not as crooked as it looks in the photo either. I am not great at photography.

These items are all knit in cotton but each one was a different kind of cotton and they all feel really different. All are machine washable, which is important with a baby.

Here are some photos of a previous mystery shawl. I finally got around to blocking it and getting some photos. It is Knitpicks fingering weight yarn that I dyed myself.

The verigation hides some of the pattern but it also gives it a different dimension.

Here is a close up of some of the patterning.
It turned out to be quite a large shawl. This is good as I also am quite large.

Crocheted Beach bag

Here is a beach bag I whipped up. It is crocheted using Handcrafter cotton yarn. It used up all of one large ball. It is great for all our towels or beach toys. It is my own design and has a drawstring at the top.

I'm on a roll. Another pair of socks for me. This yarn is very soft. It is Austermann Step with Aloe vera and Jojoba oil. My secret pal from last year gave it to me and I am finally using it.

This is a close up of the pattern. It is a lacy mock cable design. Really a very simple pattern. These were knit from the toe up and have a short row heel and toe.

Victorian lace today

Here is my first finished project from the book Victorian Lace today. It is the Spider's-web shawl. I used kidsilk haze and increased the repeats till I ran out of yarn. I did the 1/2 hexagon version. I love the shape of it.

I added beads to the bottom of it because it was so light. I thought they would help keep the bottom down.I have not yet blocked it so it is going to be large.

Here is a sweater I made for my Dear husband. It is a pattern from Cabin fever. I used Peruvian wool from Elann.com and Country mohair from Fleece artist. Wow! These are all companies in CANADA. I love being patriotic. It has not been blocked yet, as you can tell from the photos. It was a fun easy knit.

Here is a cap made with Noro silk garden. It is a simple roll brim hat. I love the colours that Silk garden comes in. What a great way to try some new expensive yarns. It only takes one ball of yarn.

I spent two weeks helping my sister recover from breast cancer surgery and while I was there I made this outfit for my daughter.

It is a cotton yarn from Knitpicks and is very soft. I got the pattern for the tank top from a magazine and created the shrug myself.

My daughter likes tank tops but gets sunburned easily so I thought this would be a good compromise.

Yes, that is all that needed to be done on this sweater. I finished the knitting part long ago but had no idea how to attach a zipper. I finally broke down and sewed it in by hand. (Yuck) It is for my 15 yr old and she picked a stretchy yarn so you could see her curves. I like the sweater and so does she.

Mystery stole finshed

Here is the mystery stole designed by Melanie. I finally finished the second half. It was a fun knit. A bit challenging, but that kept it from being boring.
Here are a couple of close ups to see the different designs in it. The colour I chose doesn't show the pattern well but that is what happens when it is a mystery.

The stole turned out to be really long. My hubby (reluctant model) is over 6 feet tall and the stoll went at least a foot past both his hands. It is about 24 inches wide.

I spent the last week working on the border of this shawl. It is Frost Flowers and Leaves and has taken me a year, or so, to knit it. I have been working so hard to get all my UFOs done. I fionally finished this and left it on the back of the couch overnight before I blocked it in the morning. This is what I found! To kill, or not to kill? The only saving grace is that I don't think he tore into the main part of the shawl, just the border. I should be able to redo this section and it look OK. I am just so tired of this border.

Maybe I will tackle it tomorrow. (the shawl, not the cat)

OK I'll let the cat live......this time.

Another Finished shawl

Here is another finished shawl.
This one is from Renee's Shawl Club (sorry, the club is no longer). It was knit on 3.5mm needles in Zepher yarn. I really enjoy all of her patterns.

Here is a close up of the individual sections. What fun.

See the hole in the right corner of the shawl? As I lay the shawl on the floor to dress it, my darling cat (Lacey) came to help. Before I could get her away, she chewed a hole right through the yarn. Thankfully, it is small and in the corner. I will probably just sew it together.
Thanks to my darling daughter for volunteering to be my live model.

Finished UFOs. (Un Finished Objects)

Here is the 4th mystery shawl from last year.
I finally got around to blocking it. It was made with knitpicks dye your own fingering weight yarn. I dyed it with kool aid. It was knit on 5mm needles and measures 58 inches across.

Here is another long term project. It is the starfish shawl from just one more row. It was knit with a lace weight boucle yarn from Fleece Artist on 4mm needles. I just love how the stripe pattern turned out. The close up photo of the center shows it really well.
Now all I have to do is block it. hopefully that won't take another year.

Here is the shawl blocking. It is about 54 inches in diameter. It was knit with Knitpicks Shadow yarn on 3.5mm needles.

Here is a close up of the center of the shawl. It has clue 1 and 2 on it but it is hard to see since it is on a black background.

This is clue 3 and was my favorite section. I will probably use this pattern again on other shawls.

And here is clue 4. The longest but not that complicated.

Here is a wedding gift I knit for a couple who got married this fall. It is a kit from Knit picks. I knit it to guage and the measurements were correct. I had a lot of left over yarn and I would have made it bigger if I had known I could. It was fun trying the different yarns and seeing how they go together.

Well, it is January 1, 2007.
I have not blogged all fall, but not because I have not been knitting. I have done a couple of shawls and have been introduced to knitted dishcloths. I decided that they would make great Christmas gifts so I knitted over 20 of them and handed them out.
I have started the year with a month of prayer and fasting and what I am fasting from is knitting. Not that knitting is bad, but it will free up a lot of my time to spend seeking after God.
We start back to school tommorow so I had better get ready for that.
I already have some knitting projects lined up for February and am waiting for the new book "Victoria Lace Today" to arrive in the mail. It might even be here tommorow. Just in time to not knit. How is that for poetic justice.
We had a wonderful, blessed Christmas (or Jesusmas as we like to call it now) and a great start to the new year.

Ta Da! I learned a new trick. A special way to block a bag like this. I blew up a balloon inside the bag to shape it and let it dry that way. Now to figure out a reasonable way to mail it.

Here is the Tilt sweater I knit. It is the first pattern that I altered to fit me. I used Noro Kuryon yarn and just loved watching the clolours. I tried to get the colours to match up and, while not perfect, are pretty close.

Sorry I haven't posted in quite a while.
I have been busy knitting the Tilt sweater from Knitty.com. I am getting close to being done. I have also been working on the mystery stole.
The second tote exchange has just started and sock wars will be starting soon. This with a long list of other knitting projects to do as well. So much knitting, so little time.
We have also started homeschooling early this year. We had finished all our trips and vacations and the children were getting bored (translates to fighting). We started 2 weeks ago and are slowly getting into a routine.
Eldest daughter starts grade 10 at the public school in Sept. She is majoring in welding with a second in carpentry. We only had a little argument with the school about transitioning from homeschool to public school. Nothing more than expected.
I Will post photos when my daughter brings her digital camera back on Monday, or until I can figure out how to get photos from our new cell phone onto the computer. Whichever comes first. LOL

Mystery shawl 4 complete

I have finished the Mystery shawl 4. It is a pi shawl knit with Malabrigo black. I had to change colour on hte edging because I was running out of black. I used Paris nights for the edging. I didn't get the name of the pattern until I was partway finished. The original shawl by Renee is called Desert sunrise and is a bautiful gold colour. I guess I picked the wrong colour for the name. I decided to rename my shawl keeping with the same theme. Mine will be called "Solar Eclipse over the Desert". It was a fun knit and my first Pi shawl. Thanks Renee.

UFOs

This week I have decided to work on my UFOs. (that's UnFinished Objects, for you non knitters). I am up to the edging on my Frost Flowers and Leaves shawl. I am also back working on my Starfish Shawl from Just One More Row. I haven't worked on these since last fall.
I also want to finish my Mystery shawl 4. I am on the 4th repeat of clue 4. I will probably do at least one more repeat.
I figure, if I get these finished, then I will feel less guilty about all the new projects I am starting. OK, who am I kidding....what guilt?
This is a good time to work on UFOs since I am on a yarn diet. Not allowed to buy anymore yarn till at least January. Donations accepted. LOL. Will knit for yarn. LOL

Newest addition to our family. Her name is Lacey and she is 7 weeks old. She is so cuddley and she purrs as soon as you pick her up. She loves to sleep under my neck.

It's Official, I'm crazy. Here I am knitting a wool sweater for my sun on the beach while camping. We went to Rushing River Provincial Park in Ontario for a few days and had agreat time. My family, however, think I am nuts to be knitting a wool sweater on the beach.

I just got weighed and measured at Curves. In 4 months I have now lost 35 pounds and 30 inches. Praise God.

Sorry it has taken me so long to post. Life (and knitting) seem to get in the way. I decided on this colour scheme and ordered the eggplant from elann.com. I wanted to wait to get the colour and get a photo. In the mean time I started knitting it with the colours I had. When I got the eggplant I took a photo (or thought I did) and then had to wait fro my daughter to put it on the computer for me. We then went camping for a week. We just got back and now we can't find the photo we took. I decided to post without photo and will add that when we take another one.
If martha wants to contact me with her particulars we can pick a ball of yarn from my stash to send for the prize.
It was hard choosing what colours to use, everyone had such great ideas. I can see that more than one sweater is going to have to be made with all these ideas, but one for now.

Lets have some fun. Here is the situation: I want to make the Pinwheel Sweater from elann.com for myself. I am on a yarn diet. I have 3-4 balls of each colour shown in the photo below. I want to use "some" of the colours that I have. I am able to suppliment some other colours from ellan.com. What colours should I use? Please leave a comment and let me know what you think. I know that all the colours do not go together but I want to use up some leftovers. When I decide what colours to go with, the person who "helped" me choose those colours will get a prize.
What is the prize? I'm not sure yet, but it will probably be a ball of yarn.
Also, please let me know where you heard about this contest.
The contest wil lbe open until June 23 (the start date for the KAL).

Hi all,
Based on the photos I just posted, my knitting is back to normal. As usual, I have several projects going at once and a few more lined up.
I am knitting a pair of socks for DAK for a lovely lady who is in the hospital. No photos yet. A sweater for me in the thinking stage, maybe a sleeves in your pi.

Is there such a thing as normal?
Well, after B and G being gone for 2 weeks and then one week after that my father and wife visiting from Florida I an looking forward to some sence of normal.
We had a nice visit with my father. He left yesterday. We did a lot of tourist things that we haven't done since moving here.
Today we are back at school and back at knitting.
I have my daughters camera back so now I can post some photos.

B's top down sweater. I have no idea how to put a zipper on a knitted sweater, especially with elastic yarn. We will be taking it out and trying again. Better luck next time.
